Telephony Cost Reductions

When a West Midlands-based electronics Company agreed to take part in a Telecoms Review pilot scheme (as a major Corporate member for one of the Association Affinity Schemes run by Frontline Network Services) little did they realize that within 12 months they would have successfully consolidated their telecommunications - across the country - through one supplier and be receiving a single clear, management-oriented bill every month.

The initial implementation of fixed-line call-routing in early 2004 has delivered a saving of 15% (when compared to their previous supplier).

The MD said “We had already moved from BT some time before and had not realized there were still substantial savings to be made until we received the results of the review. In fact” he added, “we were not looking for particular benefit for ourselves – merely hoping to benefit the Association as a whole. It has been a very welcome additional bonus that we have saved money too - 14.5% of £9,400 call charges approximately £1,350 p.a.”

In fact there were more savings to be had from a transfer of the mobile contract. Terry Lockwood of Frontline Network Services, the brokerage which administers the scheme explains “Tariffs in telecoms are volatile and as a clearing house for business allocated to the most reliable and competitive supplier at any particular time we are often able to improve our clients technological or financial position. We find in these days of established alternatives there is no disturbance to clients’ communications during the transfer – in fact we are often asked; “Has it happened yet? Are we with the new provider already?”

In this particular case they were able to retain their current mobile network - and by simply transferring to a new Billing service provider they now see a saving of over 30% (based on 35 handsets in the Company representing an estimated £8,000 per annum saving).

That’s a saving not to be sneezed at.  This is a typical case and there is scope for reviewing the cost of corporate telecommunications in just about any organization.
