Programme
Test - Strategy and Implementation
Many organisations
currently regard testing as the last stage of development often an
afterthought using non-specialist internal resources. We can show how
early interventions by a dedicated Test Resource can work to resolve
issues before they become problems and therefore de-risk the impact on
business:
-
Provide
clients with a complete service, often acting as the first and last
stop in the Software and Systems Development Cycle
-
Avoid
degradation in quality that can follow uncontrolled changes during
production
-
Leverage
current good practice, yet add value (knowledge, methods and tools)
to allow for continuous improvement.
-
Identify
issues before they become problems, allowing for timely (and
cheaper) rectification
-
Demonstrate
fast turn-round, often reducing timescales for production and
migration into service
-
Provide
minimum of disruption to the development process, working
synergetically to help avoid repeat errors
Worldwide Associates
can provide on and off-site specialist test resource and QA services
On medium to large
projects we advise that the following be used, as a minimum, to help
ensure a successful outcome.
-
Review
overall testing strategy being proposed to ensure that the clients
requirements are being addressed
-
Examine
test aspects of the build plan and the testing approach being
adopted
-
Examine
outputs and findings from existing test activities
-
Define
client Test Strategy provide effective test assurance
-
Identify
any risks associated with test activities and approach
-
Review
procedures, processes, support and reporting tools for 'fitness for
purpose'
-
Identify
client resources required to support or undertake test activities,
briefing such resources and ensuring attendance of such resources
during testing
-
Execute
Tests
-
Monitor
and witness test activities
-
Review
quality of outputs and reporting from testing
-
Monitor
progress of testing deliverables and reporting back regularly on any
findings and making recommendations as appropriate
-
Summary
analysis and management reports
Designing and
building software to run successfully cross-platform is difficult to
achieve and often time consuming to test. Each division within the group
has been developed to deal with the specialist knowledge required to
deploy enterprise wide applications.
Our consultants and
supply partners specialise in testing bespoke enterprise applications.
Performance
Testing
A series of user scenarios can be developed, automated (using the most
appropriate tools) and the service’s performance measured.
This can then be used to assess this performance in relation to
similar (possibly rival) sites, as well as act as a benchmark for future
development (ensuring that the standards of performance are retained).
Functionality
Testing
Standard testing to check for expected behaviour, broken links, correct
implementation of technologies etc.
This testing also includes the functionality of forms and
applets, including validation of input data and handling of negative
test scenarios (e.g. users doing unexpected/unusual things).
Browser
compatibility
Testing of the behaviour of the service across the supported user base
browsers, operating systems and client machine configurations. A review
of the user experience, for both ‘clean’ (no plug-ins or controls
downloaded) as well as ‘dirty’ user configurations.
Volume
and Stress testing
This automated testing simulates an increasing user load on the service,
to identify performance ‘bottle-necks and/or brick walls’ and
highlights improvements required to cope with higher volumes of traffic.
Usability-User
Analysis, User Acceptance Testing
This can act as the User Acceptance phase of the project, assessing the
service’s fitness for purpose focussing solely on the user experience.
It can require no access to requirements and design
documentation, only requiring interview access to the project sponsor to
assess the high-level user requirements and system objectives.
The preferred implementation will be based on the Intelliplex
Usability Analysis (IUA) approach. Scenarios will be developed and a set of target user-types
identified. The user
analyses will then be carried-out, including interviews with the
‘guinea-pigs’, followed by collation into a report with findings and
recommendations.
Quality Assurance
Highlighting issues and problems quickly and accurately, providing
relevant and accurate management information in order to facilitate
business decision-making. As
an external, independent body, we provide an unbiased, objective
assessment of quality, without politics or procrastination.
